Supernova (USA, 2000)

Supernova Finally a real cheesy science fiction B-movie. It has all of it. HUmans transforming to scary monsters, mysterious unidentifiable foreign object, threat to the whole Earth, busty heroines going topless, lines like “I did what was necessary”, everybody dying except the heroes, falling and satisfying love despite initial resistance on the female’s side, nice big spaceship outside the mapped universe. Unfortunatly it doesn’t go bad enough to turn to the other side and be good. It is just bad.

Here is why: the story is predictable and straight from a soap opera writer, the dialogues are boring, the characters are bland, the passion is unpassionate. I don’t real understand why Lou Diamond Phillips took this role or why Coppola directed (parts of) it. I see though why the later decided to remain uncredited from the DVD. (Story: rescue spaceship picks up a guy and a mysterious object. He turns out to be a monster, who kills almost everybody on board and the object is a bomb that can destroy a universe while replenishing it by creating 3dimensional matter grabbed from the 9th.)
