There are all sorts of circles in this movie and the Arctic one may be the least important. The plot arches over 3 generations and creates connections between different the characters, places and objects. This is an imaginatively written story where the elements of one scene often relate to the next one in unexpected way. A word became an image or piece of music in a new setting. I enjoyed these transparencies.
The film aims to examine coincidents, but fails to do so, because they are so obviously artificial. However they are very sweet. I had to learn the word “palindromic” from this movie because the main characters are called Otto and Ana and they are both proud that their name has this rare feature. They predestined themselves for each other from childhood one. They become lovers in a somewhat incestuous way, but that’s OK, because they are no siblings by blood. It reminded me lots of other movies, not the least Run Lola Run. We see Otto’s and Ana’s alternating viewpoints of the same events. We, the viewers understand easily that they are the same events. However at the very last one reality bends for one of them.
