I am such a cheap person that don’t remember when was the last time I walked out form a movie theatre where I paid for the tickets. But I had no choice to do otherwise with this one. Based on the previews I was expecting a cleverly written time-travelling story. I knew that the plot is about a man who can and do travel back multiple occasions in time to fix his past mistakes in order to save his sweethearts life. This oft used plot has the potential to work unexpected twists into it. Instead of that the makers of this movie decided to go down on the fear-mongering path.
I should have suspected that the movie won’t be according my taste, while watching the previews of three other movies before the feature presentation. One of the was for a “Teeanage Drama Queen”, another one for a movie starring Rock the wrestler where he blows up a whole town bit by bit. I don’t even remember the third one, but that was also either stupid or needlessly aggressive. Reviews are usually matched to the target audience of the main movie. So I could have concluded that the Butterfly Effect will be either stupid or violent. It was the latter. I left the theater in about its 15th minutes when a dog was set on fire. There were some other similarly disturbing scene beforehand, but this was just pointless. It still gives me the shivers when I think of this movie. Not recommended.
