Let me start off with an irrelevant fact, that did affect my experience of this movie. I have seen it only a few days after “The Battle of Algiers”. Both of them covering the same period, but in Cleo Algiers is only tangentially mentioned. Minor annoyance that goes over on the other side of the sea, that concerns only those French men, who have nothing else of interest in their life. The two comments of this kind, overheard in bars, proved to be a distraction for me. An for Cleo to who, whose beau at the end leaves for the war. Nevertheless I think I managed to get the gist of the movie. Covering two hours of Cleo’s life while waiting for medical test results. She is a singer spoiled by other and herself, who is trying to go deeper, but not too hard. The light in most shots is playing with us and the objects. Some of the compositions are worthy for still shots. For all of its visual solution is and fun I still left annoyed by its self-centerdness.
