Waiting for UCLA

Up till today, when I checked my application status at the UCLA website all I saw was a template letter saying, that they will start mailing the answers late April. There was no indication by when they would finish the process. However today the text changed to this: “We have received your application for Fall Quarter 2004 and are still in the process of reviewing it. There are still applicants for whom decisions have not yet been finalized. Please continue to check back. This site is updated daily between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.” Thus I assume I would learn the answer any day now. UCSD was also supposed to answer by May 1 and didn’t. Meanwhile I received a scholarship application from UCLA via email. They also called me, and this way I learned that they offer this scholarship only to people with GPA over 3.5. They give out 50 scholarships each year. I thinki I will apply for it although I need two recommendation letters and 3 essays, and at this point I have neither of these. Just for the fun of it here is the email:

The UCLA Alumni Association offers a merit-based scholarship to entering transfer students. The application deadline is May 8, 2004. Apply online at http://www.UCLAlumni.net/Scholarships_For_New_Students . Check out the Community College Transfer Scholarship. Recipients of these scholarships may also be eligible for need-based grants up to $5,000 in addition to the scholarship. Scholarships of $2,000 are paid out over two years and require a combination of 30 hours of service annually to UCLA and the Alumni Association for the second-year payment. For information, call 310-825-0947 or visit http://www.UCLAlumni.net/Students/Scholarship This is an announcement of UCLA Alumni Scholarship opportunities and is not a notification of admission. Admission decisions will be sent directly from the UCLA Admissions Office. The UCLA Alumni Association maintains its own schedule and assumes no responsibility for the timing, policies of decisions of the office of the UCLA Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools.
