Summary of the week starting August 29

I posted two entries this week on my blog about online religion. In the first post I introduced Elizabeth Drescher, PhD,  the author of the upcoming book “Tweet if U ? Jesus: Leadership, Communications, and Community for the Digital Reformation”, through her articles at Religion Dispatches and her own website. In the second post I shares some thoughts in relation to Hermant Mehta‘s article at Patheos, titled “How the Internet Is Reshaping Humanism.”

In my local blog about/for Forestville I pointed out three concerts (Pato Banton @ Hollydale, the Jug Dealers and Third Rail @ Foresvtille Club). I shared the date and program of the “back to school night” at El Molino High School and the list of local organizations and businesses, I know of, who are on Facebook.

On the personal side Friday we visited Korbel champagnery for lunch and in the evening we went to my wife’s gradechool for a reenactment/recollection/performance of school days as the space is getting turned into an apartment complex and arts center. My BIL and his girlfriend was here too on their way to Alaska. Our garden was photographed every day of the week by me, but I missed two days of our daughter. I’ve seen four movies this week:

  • Harper (1966, USA) -  Mystery/crime with Paul Newman and meticulous attention to details, cool lines about religion, and relationships, prime example of misogyny.
  • Centurion (2010, USA) – Much better than The Last Legion , although this is also about the last legion of the Roman empire. Satisfied my need for gore for a long while.
  • Heathers (1987, USA) – unexpectedly dark, as I thought it would be another 80′s teen comedy. That it was, but foreshadowing Columbine 10 years later. Go Wynona Rider!
  • Prince of Persia: The sands of time (2010, USA) – enough jumping and swordfight for a year for me.
  • The harder they come (1972, Jamaica) – Pretty much the first Jamaican feature film, although it often felt more like a documentary of urban suffering. A country boy’s story in the city as he sinks into crime and reggea singing.

And the picture of the week of me, facing my unshaven self:
